Weekend Wear: Peach Kitty

After the jam-packed week I'd had, I was super glad to have a quiet weekend with The Boy and take it easy. We decided to go out for a walk on Saturday and it was the perfect excuse to wear this cat print dress that I had bought from H&M recently. As well as the tres adorable print, I also love the fit and cut of the dress - it's a bit like a skater dress-meets kid's party dress!

The monochrome colourway of the dress means that I can accessorise it with whatever colour pop takes my fancy. On Saturday I decided to pair it with some peach tights (also from H&M) and a little black cardigan by Betsey Johnson. The cardigan doesn't look too exciting from the front, but then I turn round and POW! A massive bunch of cherries stitched on the back. Oh, Betsey...

My hair is getting really long, but it can still be comfortably put into a bun/ topknot so I wore it up on Saturday with a black and white printed Topshop bow (I think Saturday was my third or fourth day wearing that bow, I love it!). I wore some studded ballet flats from Primark which were perfect for mooching around for the afternoon.

On Saturday (or should that be CATURDAY?) I also managed to (FINALLY) track down the latest copy of V Magazine with Prince on the cover! I was so happy to find it at as you can imagine I carried it around preciously for the rest of the day. We went for dinner at Zizzi on Cresswell Lane and quite conveniently we were offered a table with 4 seats, which meant Prince even got his own seat at the table! Dinner was delicious and a highlight of our visit was Kitty's gelato - wow! I tried the dark chocolate, mint choc chip and (my favourite) pistachio. All of them were amazing and I can't wait to go back and try them again!

It was lovely to have a lazy day and just do whatever we wanted without rushing around. And considering that the day took us for a long walk, a Prince discovery and gelato-fest; I'd say lazy Saturdays might be just as good as planned weekends!

How was your weekend? What did you wear? What is your favourite flavour of gelato?

Weekend Wear: Saturday Girl

This week has been so warm with the heatwave and all, even a total tights addict like me has had to cut the stockings loose and brave bare legs! When I was younger I couldn't stand the warm weather at all, I burn very easily and always felt too hot and uncomfortable TO DO ANYTHING! IT FEELS LIKE I'M STANDING IN THE CENTRE OF THE SUN! HELP! OK, enough with the dramatics, it really isn't that bad. I can deal with the warm weather (and hey, even enjoy it) as long as I wear sensible clothes and slap on that sunscreen.

I chose to wear this Primark dress this weekend because it's very light and floaty, perfect for keeping cool in the warm weather. It's a bit different from my usual 1950's and skater style dresses which I normally gravitate towards, although it still nips in at the waist and has a full skirt. When I first seen it in Primark the unusual shape reminded me of Vivienne Westwood's Sunday Girl dress - with it's draped style top and hem sitting just below the knee - so I have nicknamed it the Saturday Girl dress.  It's very bright too,  I really like the blue and pink colour combination and it makes me feel very summery! So this weekend I wore it for a day at the park, embraced the bare legs and enjoyed being out in the sun (protected by an impenetrable shield of SPF110).

On my feet I wore my JuJu jelly shoes (again) - they are so good in this weather and very comfy for the big long walks I enjoy going on in the Summer. I used my new Betseyville pink glitter satchel. More pink! As if I wasn't wearing enough pink already. I got the satchel in JCP on my last Florida trip and it was marked down to $8! It would have been rude to NOT buy it, dontcha think?

Summertime always makes me think of bright colours (in case you hadn't noticed), so I did a multi-coloured manicure using OPI, Model's Own and Barry M nail polishes. To me it's like really lazy nail art - minimum effort but maximum payoff! Plus, I feel like I have rainbows shooting out of my fingertips.

I tied my hair up and wore a small flower crown from Topshop (in - you guessed it - pink) and wore some blue wayfarer style shades. I kept jewellery simple and wore a couple of rings in pink and blue. The blue ring is by Tatty Devine and the other was a gift so I have no idea where it's from (I like the ice lolly design though).

I've packed my tights away for the rest of the weekend. I sort of feel like I've thrown away a comfort blanket this week! It was worth it, and I really enjoyed our day at the park.

What did YOU wear this weekend? Did you go to the park or maybe even have a picnic? Do you have an item of clothing that's like a comfort blanket?

Weekend Wear: Have a Lovely Day

"It's the hottest day of the year tomorrow!" were the excited yelps that I was hearing all day on Thursday. "It's gonna be ROASTIN'!". It was pretty warm on Friday but I'm not sure if it deserved the title of HDOTY 2013! I was happy to have the day off work with The Boy and start our anniversary weekend with some sunshine. We went for a walk in the park which had Glasgow Summer staples everywhere we looked: TAPS AFF* for the boys and "outfits you'd normally only wear to The Dancin' " (AKA hardly any clothes at all) for the girls. Still, it was a beautiful day and everybody looked really happy sitting on the grass half cut/ half naked. It was like the Garden of Eden, sponsored by Oddbins.

The Boy didn't walk around with his top off (not his style) and I chose to keep mine on too (HA!). I wore a black Betsey Johnson dress (which I have, ironically worn out to a club night before. People in glass houses and all that, eh?) and my new Levi's denim vest got another outing (hurrah!). I've decorated my vest with some badges - including my Tatty Devine anchor from the mystery box I got last month.
I also wore my new Hello Kitty x Vans slip-on plimsolls, BUT - in all the photos the sun was shining really brightly and I never noticed until later that the glare of the sun makes them look white in the picture. They are actually pink and very cute, not boring and plain white! Doh! I also got to wear my new sunglasses that I picked up in a Dickies outlet for $5 on holiday. They are a strange mixture between round and cats-eye frames, but I love them for their weirdness!

I am not brave enough to bare my legs at home yet (and especially not with this dress) so I wore some Red Herring turquoise tights. Jewellery-wise I wore my pink Tequila Star 'POW' necklace and some Tarina Tarantino skull earrings (also pink). I topped it off with a Topshop flower crown.

While walking through the park I seen this graffiti (below). What it lacks in artistic talent it more than makes up for it in sentiment, don't you think?

After a walk in the park we went to The Sanctuary's secret beer garden, where Smoak were doing a pop-up restaurant, and had a very big (and delicious) lunch. Later that day we met up with our friend that we hadn't seen in a couple of months and had a great time catching up while some of my favourite songs were played in the pub. Happy days!

What did you wear this weekend? Did you go out and enjoy the sunshine? And go TAPS AFF?

Thanks for reading!

* - explanation of 'TAPS AFF' for non-Scottish readers. When the slightest hint of sunshine appears in Glasgow a lot of guys get the inexplicable urge to strut around with no top on ('Tap' = top, 'aff'=off, therefore 'taps aff' = 'tops off'). This is normally accessorised with a bottled beverage being stored in the back pocket of their jeans (because, you know, THE HEAT). It is both hilarious and terrifying in equal measures. Hope this helps!

Beauty Bites: US Sephora Haul

As well as the goodies that I had picked up at the drugstores on my recent trip to Florida, I had also mentioned that I went nuts treated myself at Sephora ("THE MOTHERSHIP") as well. Like with the drugstore brands, I had a list of items that I wanted to check out when I got to Sephora - the closest branch (to where I was staying) of which was located at the Florida Mall. When I got to the mall and had a nosey around I realised that there were actually two Sephoras - a stand alone store and a concession in JC Penney. I assumed that both would have the same stock but it turned out that the stock was quite different in both of them, which was actually quite good as it meant I had a bigger choice of goodies overall.

I am a big fan of the collaborations that Sephora produce - last year I got some lovely Tarina Tarantino x Sephora and Betsey Johnson x Sephora products and this year I was on the lookout for the Hello Kitty x Sephora and Kat Von D x Sephora ranges (as well as a few other bits and pieces). I was in luck at the stand alone store - The Boy (AKA world's best shopping partner - he always sniffs out the good stuff) found me a random Hello Kitty compact for a couple of dollars in a clearance section, and then I found out that the entire range was marked for clearance! I picked up two lipsticks (in bright pink and candy apple red), a dark purple liquid eyeliner and some nail art transfers that were all marked down as clearance. The only downside of course was that the Hello Kitty display case was totally ransacked and I didn't have my pick of the whole collection. Still, I'm delighted with what I got.

I had made a note to check out the Kat Von D collection, but particularly the Everlasting Love liquid lipsticks. I seem to be having a bit of a love affair with liquid lipsticks at the moment and visiting the Kat Von D display just fanned the flames I think! Every colour was beautiful, bright and had amazing staying power (I had swatches on my hand that day that refused to leave, haha). I was torn between getting Underage Red (exactly what you think it would look like) and Backstage Bambi, a shocking pink. In the end I went with Backstage Bambi, which I've worn a few times since and adore it. I also got some of the Kat Von D Autograph liquid liner (not tried it yet) and a bottle of Saint perfume - the reviews I've read are true, it smells amazing!

After the INAA bloggers event, I was impressed by Bumble and Bumble and decided to take advantage of the pounds/ dollars exchange rate and get some of their hairspray. I bought a can of their Classic spray and it does the job really well (and doesn't have that horrible hairspray smell going on).

I also spied some Betsey Johnson nail art transfers and Sephora own-brand eyeliner transfers in the clearance section. The eyeliner transfers, which feel like velvety stickers to be placed along the lashline, are something I hadn't tried before but for $3 I thought I'd give them a go and see how I find them.

Clarisonic cleansing facial brushes seem to be very popular across the pond at the moment (I was bombarded with adverts for them constantly), but I had read an interesting review on XOJane about a $5 cleansing pad that did just about the same job (for a lot less) so wanted to check it out. I ended up buying it (it's called the Sephore Collection Precision Pore cleansing pad) and I've liked using it so far.

Finally, I bought some Urban Decay Naked Skin BB cream (not tried it yet) and OCC Lip Tar which I had heard lots of good things about. The OCC Lip Tar is excellent, probably my favourite (and most-used so far) of all the purchases from Sephora. I wore it every day on holiday (and I'm even wearing it today) and I really like how super pigmented it is and I'm amazed that a tiny bit of product can go such a long way. Well worth the $18 price tag.  I bought it in Nylon which is described as a 'classic bubblegum pink with a neon twist' - I'd say that sums it up nicely! I'm wearing mine in the picture on the right. There were no other OCC products in the stores I visited, just some lip tars in bowls where you would queue to pay.

Sephora is one of those stores that I could easily have bought more in but I was very happy with what I got.  I managed to pick up a selection of make-up, hair, nail, skincare and perfume products which I have enjoyed using so far. Sometimes I wish we had it in the UK, but then I think I would have no money left if we did!

Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts on them? Who is your favourite shopping partner?

Weekend Wear: Green & Black

Sadly this post is not about Green and Blacks chocolate (sorry if I got your hopes up),  instead it is about my colour combo of choice for what I wore this weekend. The Boy and I headed out to Bar Gumbo on Byres Road (full review to come) and I had a new green Topshop dress (£25 down to £12 in the sale) that was dying to be trotted out.

I have this dress in black as well and it is one of my most-worn, 'goes-with-everything' dresses. I wear the black dress on its own, layered under t-shirts and cardigans and with printed tights. It's a good wardrobe 'basic' of mine. The dress is a simple skater cut, with three-quarter length sleeves and a nice textured material which makes it that little bit more interesting. The material also has a little stretch to it which makes it ideal for going out for food too!  So when I seen the same one in green (a shade that I have decided should be called 'Christmas Green') and less than half price I snapped it up. The only thing about this dress is that it is a bit short, I definitely wouldn't go bare legged while wearing it but then again I don't really go bare legged anyway!

It was really nice and sunny this weekend so I let my Lanvin x H&M sunglasses see the light of day and wore my lightweight Betsey Johnson jacket (basically a fancy sweatshirt because it's made from soft jersey material) and Mickey Mouse printed tights from Primark. I bought these tights ages ago but hadn't worn them yet. Being a huge Disney fan (and patterned tights fan too), I love the subtle nod to Mickey Mouse and how wearable the print is.

I also wore jewellery by Bonnie Bling, Tatty Devine, Fossil and Thomas Sabo. After realising I had so many dark colours on (not intentional!) I added a splash of colour with my comic-book romance hair bow by Something Different - a fantastic local brand whose hair accessories are always cute and well-made.  Never one to shy away from bows (as if!) I also wore a black bow belt from River Island.

What did you wear this weekend? Did you rock some sunglasses? Do you ever make up names for colours?

Weekend Wear: Saturday Cinema Date

I meant to post this yesterday after we went to see The Place Beyond the Pines but by the time we got out of the film and had something to eat it was pretty late. I wore my favourite Luella (RIP) slime monster T-shirt for our wee Saturday cinema date - I wish I could wear it every day, I love it.

I wore my tee with a blue denim skater skirt from Primark (STILL loving the skater skirts), black suede creepers from Topshop and my Betsey Johnson blazer. It was 12 degrees yesterday which is the warmest it has been for ages so there was no need to wear loads of layers and wool knits for a change. I didn't go OTT on the accessories (say WHAT? I know) and wore Tatty Devine LOVE and HATE tattooed knuckles brooches (my first ever Tatty Devine pieces that I got many moons ago, talk about opening the floodgates) with a glittery Crown & Glory bow in my hair.

I matched my nails to my tee by using Illamasqua's Radium polish (the PERFECT slime green, should you ever be looking for one) and wore Louise Gray x Topshop lipstick in Legend.

We managed to avoid the wet weather and popped into a few shops before the film was due to start. Star purchase of the day had to be a pair of flowery cat ears from H&M which are right up my street. I love wearing flowers on my noggin, and I also like to wear cat ears - why hadn't I thought of combining them before? It's so obvious! Anyway, after my beady eye spotted these bright and beautiful babies, there was just no doubt. "They're the best" said The Boy. "You need to get them". I love that he supports my crazy headwear choices.

The film was great, I don't want to give anything away though so I will say no more. Afterwards The Boy suggested that we "go and eat tacos and cheesecake until our insides explode". I couldn't think of a better end to the day.

What did you wear this weekend? Do you miss Luella too? What is your favourite post-cinema meal?

Ice Cream Castles

Ice Cream Castles

Spring, are you there? I don't know about you but I'm starting to long for bright and sunny days. This dreary, cold weather has surely got to come to an end soon! I'm in the mood to eat ice cream and wear pastels, so couldn't help but think about what I would like to be wearing while messing around on Polyvore earlier. I may be wearing a wool peacoat on the outside, but this is the look I'm REALLY thinking about!

This Markus Lupfer sweater, flower crown by Crown and Glory, Jeffrey Campbell shoes, Tarina Tarantino ring and Betsey Johnson tights and bag all make up my sweet Springtime Sundae. And white speckled nails are the hundreds and thousands that I'd scatter on top.

Are you ready for Spring? What are your favourite Springtime outfits? And favourite flavour of ice cream?
